A brief report of what is going on around Human Security this month:

1. The fourth Friends of Human Security Meeting on 15 May at UN NYHQ (jointly chaired by Japan and Mexico)

2. The first UN General Assembly Thematic Debate on Human Security on 22 May at UN NYHQ

For this meeting the Friend of Human Security prepared a comprehensive compendium of human security related initiatives and activities by its members and UN agencies. It is available in all the official languages.

3. Symposium: From Okinawa to Douyako –
23-24 May in Tokyo Akasaka Gland Prince
Aiming to the G8 meeting to be held this July, the group of experts from the Global Fund GFTAM and its Japanese Committee, sponsored by MOFA, would present a new vision on the three largest infectious diseases – Malaria, HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis - from the viewpoint of Human Security.

4. Fourth Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD IV). From the 28th to the-30th of May in Yokohama..
Human Security, along with Economic Growth and Climate Change, is one of the pillars of the meeting.

5.Human Security Network Ministerial Meeting, in Athena on 29-30 May

Offspring of the narrow understanding on Human Security, this year meeting has an especial emphasis on climate change, and also included discussions around poverty and HIV/AIDS.
